The State Administration for Market Regulation is clear! This type of infant formula food must not continue to be sold

The reporter learned today (20th) that in order to implement the “Measures for the Supervision and Administration of Food Labeling” and other relevant regulations, and to guide infant formula food (infant formula milk powder, infant formula liquid milk) manufacturers to further standardize labeling, on September 20, the State Administration for Market Regulation issued the “Infant Formula Food Labeling Questions and Answers” (hereinafter referred to as the “Q&A”).

The “Q&A” clarifies the labeling requirements for infant formula production date and shelf life, allergen reminders, milk source, blended formula producer information, etc., and emphasizes that label adjustments should be filed with the provincial market supervision department in accordance with the law. At the same time, it is required that the content, format and color of the labels of products with the same formula from the same company should be consistent. If the milk source is claimed, it should be clearly marked on the label and should not be distinguished by packaging color (including can lids), can shape, etc.

The “Q&A” reminds manufacturers that formula foods for infants and young children produced before the implementation date of the “Measures for the Supervision and Administration of Food Labeling” (March 16, 2027), if the label content violates the prohibitive provisions of the regulations (such as expressly or implicitly stating that it has immunity enhancement, etc., shall not be labeled), it shall not continue to be sold; if the prohibitive provisions are not violated, it can be sold until the end of the shelf life.
