Canadian Prime Minister Carney announced the launch of a national security strategy called the “Stronger Canada Plan” on the 29th local time. This is Canada’s first national security strategy formulated in more than 20 years.

The strategy says the line between economic security and national security has disappeared. National security depends not only on national defense and adequate resources, but also on economic strength, institutional resilience, and partnerships with allies.

According to the announced content, the strategy proposes five major priorities: first, to strengthen economic security and improve its ability to withstand risks; second, to implement a sound foreign policy, promote diversified partnerships and enhance strategic capabilities; third, to rebuild and strengthen the Canadian Armed Forces to defend Canada and its interests; fourth, to strengthen public security and resist criminal and national security threats; fifth, to enhance intelligence capabilities to predict and respond to emerging threats.

Carney said that in a rapidly changing and increasingly dangerous world, Canada must have the ability to defend its sovereignty and the resilience to respond to emerging threats.

The Canadian Prime Minister’s Office said the Canadian government will update the strategy at least every four years.
