During this year’s National Day holiday, road travel is expected to account for more than 90%, self-driving travel has become the main travel force, and RV consumption has changed, from short-term rental experience to direct purchase for own use. With enhanced policies and improved supporting facilities, RVs have moved from a niche hobby to more people’s consumption.
On the fifth day of the National Day holiday, transportation across the country gradually welcomed return passengers. On the 5th, the cross-regional movement of people across society exceeded 300 million, and road travel is expected to account for more than 90%, with self-driving travel being the absolute main force. The long holiday has generated a large amount of demand for cross-city in-depth travel, and RVs that take “home” to distant places are favored by more and more consumers.
RV rental boom
More and more young people are playing RV
In the past, tenants were mainly silver-haired people. This year, young families born in the 90s and 95s are growing rapidly.. Travel demand has shifted from short-distance camping in the surrounding areas to long-distance self-driving across provinces. Vacation RV stores are hard to find, and the average rental length has been extended to seven days.
On the eve of the National Day, an RV rental store in Hangzhou experienced a peak period for car pickups, and Ms. Chen’s family was preparing to embark on a long-term RV trip to the northwest. Previously, they only rented an RV for short trips around the area. With enough long vacations, the family planned to travel to further destinations.
Ms. Chen said that in recent years, RVs have been the preferred choice for travel, as they provide greater freedom of travel. There is no need to rush to check out of a hotel, and all food and accommodation are in the car. The privacy is high, and the elderly and children can travel more calmly.
The person in charge of the store said that in the past, the core group of RV rentals were the silver-haired group aged 55 to 65 who preferred long-distance travel.This year, the tenant population has become significantly younger, with the number of households born in the 1990s and 1995s growing rapidly.。
The person in charge of the store mentioned that long-term car return orders have increased significantly, and tourists have shifted from camping in the surrounding areas to long-term travel across the country, with the average car rental time reaching 7 days. The store has about 100 vehicles on standby, and they are all fully rented during this National Day holiday.
If you are not satisfied with just renting, some people simply buy it!
The logic of RV consumption has changed, and many tourists choose to buy a car after completing the rental experience. The demand for car purchases is divided: large-space expansion models and small camping cars each have their own markets. RV sales continue to rise, and new energy models have become a new bright spot in growth.
As the rental market becomes more popular,The number of consumers purchasing RVs directly continues to increase. At RV stores in Changzhou, Jiangsu, the number of young people buying RVs has increased significantly, and the RV vacation model is being accepted by young groups.
In the RV store, some consumers picked up the car on site. The RV priced at 638,000 yuan has dual expansion compartments and a spacious interior. It can meet the diverse travel needs of car owners.
According to the store sales manager, the sales of RVs in the store this year have increased by nearly 30% compared to last year, and the sales of new energy models account for 25% of the overall products.
According to data from the RV Branch of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, total sales of self-propelled RVs in my country will exceed the 20,000 mark for the first time in 2025. In the first half of this year, the cumulative number of self-propelled RV registrations in my country has exceeded 12,000, a year-on-year increase of 32.6%, and the penetration rate of new energy RVs has climbed to 18.4%. Industry insiders predict that driven by the holiday travel boom and favorable policies, RV sales in 2026 are expected to hit a new high.
RV campsites are hard to find
RV industry chain accelerates development
Ten departments have introduced policies to support RV consumption, covering supply, access, and campground construction. The supporting facilities of RV campsites continue to improve, and basic services such as water recharging and charging are more convenient.Bookings for National Day campsites are booming, and the proportion of self-owned RV users continues to increase.
In September this year, ten departments including the Ministry of Culture and Tourism jointly issued the “Several Measures to Promote RV Consumption”, which proposed nine policy measures from aspects such as improving the quality of RV supply, ensuring the passage and parking of RVs, and strengthening the construction of RV campsites, which will accelerate the development of the entire RV industry chain.
The RV camp next to Xixi Wetland Park in Hangzhou welcomed a large number of National Day tourists. The RVs were parked near the lake, and you could see the green lake scenery when you opened the door. Many tourists come here because of the attraction. Everyone intuitively feels that the number of campsites has increased, and the water filling and charging facilities are more complete, making the travel experience more comfortable and convenient.
According to the person in charge of the camp, the camp covers an area of more than 60 acres and has 25 professional RV parking spaces. A total of 15 vehicles were booked for National Day on October 1-2; after October 3, the order volume will be 80%, and subsequent plans will double the number of parking spaces.

Industrial development space is further opened
By the end of 2025, the number of RV campsites of various types across the country has exceeded 3,100. Infrastructure layout has been accelerated in many places. RV supply areas and dedicated parking spaces have been gradually added to highway service areas, and supporting services such as RV campsites are being implemented rapidly.
