Ordinary position, extraordinary persistence. During the National Day holiday, machinery roared at major project sites, and people’s livelihood security continued to be stable… Thousands of workers built their homes with sweat, and made new achievements with hard work.
Fighting on the front line for major projects
In the early morning of October 5, in Qinzhou, Guangxi, the Pinglu Canal Youth Dispatch Center was brightly lit.
In front of the large dispatch screen, Cheng Yaofei, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Guangxi Pinglu Canal Construction Company, held a walkie-talkie in his hand: “The connection of gates should be tighter to maintain the safety and efficiency of navigation.”
This is the first National Day holiday after the opening of the Pinglu Canal. For more than half a month, the cargo flow has become increasingly abundant. Guangxi Pinglu Canal Construction Company has focused its work on the front line of operation and maintenance to ensure smooth operation. The entire operation and management team is on duty to dispatch each lock and ship one by one. The gate crossing plan has been repeatedly reviewed, the emergency plan has been verified item by item, and the duty schedule has been accurate for each person. “Navigation is not the end, but a new starting point.” Cheng Yaofei said.
During the National Day holiday, more than 200 builders stepped up construction at the construction site of Tibet Huadian Qiongjie Wind Power Project. The highest altitude of the wind power project is 5,350 meters, with a total installed capacity of 150 MW.
Construction on plateau is not easy. The lifting of wind turbine blades requires wind speeds below 10 meters per second, but in October, strong winds on the mountains often exceed 30 meters per second, so the window period is fleeting. 23 of the 24 wind turbines have been hoisted.
“Everyone is holding back their energy to seize the golden construction period before the snowfall and typhoon season to ensure that the project can be put into use as scheduled.” said Wang Shikui, project manager of Huadian.
At the construction site of the T2 terminal of Kunming Changshui International Airport in Yunnan, there are many tower cranes and roaring machinery. In the sky, welders hold welding guns and work intensively; on the ground, safety officers patrol back and forth.
The reconstruction and expansion project of Kunming Changshui International Airport is a major infrastructure project in Yunnan Province. Upon completion, the passenger throughput will reach 95 million. The construction of the project will not stop during the National Day holiday. Ren Zhiping, general contracting manager of Kunming Changshui International Airport T2 Terminal of China Construction Third Engineering Bureau, said that the project plans to complete the assembly of the grid and lift the overall frame into place by the end of this year. By then, the skeleton of the terminal will be completed.
Serve the people and protect thousands of families
In the past few days, the Pamir Plateau has been experiencing severe cold winds and temperatures plummeting. During the National Day holiday, six officers and soldiers from the Maidan Border Defense Company of a border defense regiment of the Xinjiang Military Region stationed in the western border of the motherland packed up their equipment and went to a point more than 4,000 meters above sea level to perform armed patrols. This patrol covers a round trip of more than 50 kilometers and needs to climb three snow-capped mountains and pass through 11 winding mountain intersections.
“I feel extremely proud and proud to be able to contribute to protecting the tranquility of the motherland’s border.” said Private Xie Kangwei.
At 8:30 in the morning on October 5, the lights were on at the public security and government services comprehensive window of the People’s Service Center in Shushan District, Hefei City, Anhui Province.

During the National Day holiday, autumn is blooming along the Ergun River in Hulunbuir City, Inner Mongolia. On the morning of October 5, the police on duty at the Shiwei Border Police Station of the Hulunbuir Border Management Detachment distributed leaflets on border regulations to tourists, while reminding everyone to pay attention to warning signs and abide by border management regulations. The autumn wind blew by, and the navy blue police uniforms stood out among the golden forest.
“The closer the holiday is, the less we can relax.” Yin Haipeng, director of the Shiwei Border Police Station, said that it coincides with the peak tourist season in the Daxinganling Mountains, and multiple tasks such as border control, scenic spot security, and convenience services are superimposed. On the morning of October 5, in the Speech Rehabilitation Clinic of the Stomatological Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing Medical University, deputy chief physician Jiang Chenghui squatted down to diagnose a 7-year-old boy, trying to help him “find his voice back” bit by bit.
During the National Day holiday, Jiang Chenghui stayed at her post and carried out speech training for children with the disease. Guaranteed supply and stable price, orderly market
On October 5, in Datong, Shanxi, 100 meters underground at the Tongxin Mine of Jinneng Coal Industry Group, the roar of coal mining and tunnel boring machines was heard, the transport belts were rolling, and the newly mined black gold was continuously transported out.
The heating season is approaching, and the task of ensuring the supply of thermal coal and heating coal is urgent. During the National Day holiday, Chi Yongdong, captain of the comprehensive mining team, paid close attention to the key processes of the coal mining face, and shouldered the important task of ensuring supply during the holiday with his colleagues. “It is expected that 7 cuts of coal can be cut in one day today, with each cut producing about 3,500 tons of coal. The total output of the entire mine today can reach 40,000 tons.” Chi Yongdong introduced.
During the National Day holiday, energy supply was guaranteed and operations continued, and supermarket shelves were fully stocked and prices were stable.
On October 5, the Tangjiadun store in Zhongbai Neighborhood Hui, Jianghan District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province was fully stocked with seasonal fresh produce and daily necessities, and many citizens came to purchase during the holidays. In front of the checkout counter, store manager Li Ling dispatched manpower and opened additional cash registers according to customer flow, while making phone calls to arrange replenishment of popular products.
Build a strong line of defense and protect thousands of fireworks. “We have launched a holiday supply guarantee mode. Key livelihood commodities such as rice, flour, grains, oils, meat, eggs, and milk are three times the daily inventory. Fresh food is generally ordered in advance and delivered early in the morning to ensure that customers can eat fresh ingredients that day.” Li Ling said that during the holiday shopping malls also carry out promotional activities such as free shopping and group purchase discounts, “shopping and eating to save money.”
