Nandu previously reported that on August 26, an ice and rock avalanche occurred on the glacier on the north slope of Langtangli Rang Peak in Nepal, triggering a mudslide. The rushing mud destroyed the hydropower station project where Lu Haitao was working. Fortunately, he climbed to a high point in the tunnel and was finally rescued on September 5 after being trapped for 11 days. Lying on the hospital bed, the 49-year-old sighed: “This is a miracle.”
From September 10th to 12th, reporters from Nandu visited Tangyin County. Lu Haitao’s sister, Lu Hairong, recalled that her brother had sent money to his family before his accident. When she heard about him again, she lost contact and “my heart twitched.” It turns out that this is not a wealthy family: in his early years, Lu Haitao’s parents were sick and hospitalized, and the family was under great financial pressure. “The child has also reached the age of starting a family, and he can’t make money from farming, so he went out to work.”
“It’s all forced by life. Who can do that work if you have money?” a village cadre in Lu Haitao’s hometown lamented to a reporter from Nandu. Today, in Tangyin County, there are many people like Lu Haitao who go abroad to work. Some even go to Africa. Many people choose to work in the construction industry.
