WTT China Grand Slam: Sun Yingsha’s women’s singles upset and the national table tennis mixed doubles missed the championship

According to Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, October 7, the 2026 World Table Tennis Professional League (WTT) China Grand Slam continued on the 7th. Sun Yingsha was upset in the women’s singles competition and stopped in the top 32. Huang Youzheng/Chen Yi lost to the Japanese combination Matsushima Terukong/Harimoto Miwa, and the national table tennis team will miss the mixed doubles championship.

Sun Yingsha won one game first in the day’s match, and then lost three consecutive games, losing to Thailand’s Pranam 1:3. She revealed at the press conference after the game that she came to the China Grand Slam non-stop after competing in the Asian Games. Her body was exhausted and she had a fever the night before the game.

“I feel that my physical condition is still within control, and I am actively cooperating with treatment. I hope everyone can give me more encouragement and not worry too much. I also hope to recover as quickly as possible.” Sun Yingsha said.

Chen Xingtong and Zhu Sibing both defeated players from foreign associations. Kuaiman defeated teammate Zong Geman 3:1 and advanced to the top 16 of women’s singles.

In men’s singles, national table tennis player Liang Jingkun lost to Chinese Taipei player Guo Guanhong 1:3; Zhou Qihao narrowly defeated his teammate Xiang Peng 3:2 and will challenge No. 3 seed Tomokazu Zhang moto in the next round. Zhou Qihao has yet to win in his previous matches with Harimoto Tomokazu. He said that he would go all out in the next game and “go and fight with him.”

In the mixed doubles, Huang Youzheng/Chen Yi fought against Matsushima Terukong/Arimoto Miwa in the quarter-finals for five games and lost 11:5, 9:11, 11:9, 5:11, 5:11. So far, all the national table tennis teams have been eliminated in the mixed doubles arena. This is also the first time that the national table tennis team has lost the mixed doubles championship in a Chinese Grand Slam.

In the quarter-finals of the doubles event, Liang Jingkun/Xiang Peng, Wen Ruibo/Yuan Lizen successfully advanced to the quarterfinals of the men’s doubles; in the women’s doubles, Gao Yuxin/Xiang Junlin, Wang Manyu/Kui Man, Wang Yidi/Jiang Yiyi, Chen Yi/Li Yihui all successfully entered the quarterfinals.
