CCTV news:The reporter learned from the National Energy Administration on October 2 that the popularity of new energy vehicle travel continued to rise during the National Day holiday. On the first day of the holiday, the charging capacity of highways across the country reached 28.0469 million kilowatt hours, an increase of 60.4% compared with the first day of the National Day holiday in 2025, setting a new record for a single day in historical holidays.
Which service areas are “especially busy charging”? See the list
Travel is booming, and queuing up for charging at highway service areas has become an annoyance for many car owners. Where is the most congested place to charge? What time of day is it most crowded? Which service areas are particularly busy? Is there any way to avoid the queue? What to do in case of emergency?
During the National Day holiday, the high-speed service areas that are particularly busy with charging across the country include: Laoting service area and Tanghai service area in the Hebei section of the Qinbin Expressway, Pengcheng service area in the Jiangsu section of the Lianhuo Expressway, Yundan parking area in the Fujian section of the Shenhai Expressway, and the Fujian section of the Shaxia Expressway Xiucun service area, Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway Henan section Luohe service area, Hebao Expressway Henan section Wangwushan service area, Changzhi Expressway Hunan section Qiaotouhe service area, Beijing-Kunming Expressway Sichuan section Xin’an service area, Beijing-Kunming Expressway Shaanxi section Chengcheng service area.
When is charging the most crowded? How to charge during off-peak hours?
If you pass through the above road sections, it is recommended to make charging plans in advance and try to avoid peak hours. When is charging the most crowded? When should I leave so that I can avoid queuing?
There are many new energy vehicles during the National Day holiday, and the average daily number of vehicles is 1.8 times that of daily new energy vehicle trips. The overall charging demand on highways shows the characteristics of “dispersed on the outbound trip and concentrated on the return trip”.

Starting from 10 o’clock every day, the number of vehicles at the charging station in the expressway service area begins to increase significantly. After 21 o’clock, the traffic flow gradually decreases, and the charging demand decreases accordingly. October 5th and 6th are the core periods for return journeys, and there will be a significant increase in highway charging vehicles. The peak charging hours are from 11:00 to 21:00 on October 5 and from 10:00 to 22:00 on October 6.
New energy vehicles are busy charging. Is there any way to avoid queuing?
Queuing for charging at new energy vehicle service areas has caused a lot of discussion. How to effectively avoid waiting in line and improve travel efficiency?
Shi Shuanglong, director of the Monitoring Center of State Grid Smart Internet of Vehicles Technology Co., Ltd., said that a highway travel guide was released before the holiday to predict congestion periods and road sections to help car owners optimize travel routes. During the holidays, car owners are actively guided to charge at urban public charging stations near highway entrances and exits. At the same time, for hot-spot high-speed service area stations, car owners are encouraged to vacate parking spaces in time when charging reaches 80% to avoid long-term trickle charging, reduce the average charging time of bicycles, improve the overall energy replenishment efficiency during holiday peak hours, and effectively alleviate the charging queue pressure in high-speed service areas.
What emergency equipment has been added to the high-speed service area charging?
To put it simply: read the guide, go around the town, and walk for 80 minutes. To ease the charging pressure, are there any additional charging facilities during the holidays?

In order to improve the charging speed of new energy vehicles and alleviate charging pressure, during the National Day holiday in 2026, the State Grid Corporation of China has deployed a total of 599 emergency charging guns in high-speed service areas, and deployed 32 mobile emergency charging vehicles in service areas with busy charging and sufficient transformer capacity.
Shi Shuanglong said that based on the data from the State Grid Smart Internet of Vehicles platform, the busy situation of the service area is predicted daily, and emergency charging facilities are dynamically adjusted and deployed through opposite side movement, same-line movement to the nearest location, etc. to ensure that users can travel conveniently during holidays.
Add mobile charging warehouses to promote “shared charging piles” to cope with peak times
In order to cope with the peak charging demand during the holidays, many places have taken measures to deal with it. In Hubei, mobile charging warehouses, new charging stations, and “private charging pile sharing” have been promoted in high-speed service areas and popular scenic spots.
This service area is one of the important hubs connecting Wuhan to southern Hubei and Hunan and Guangdong regions. In order to ensure the charging needs of new energy vehicles during the holidays, the service area is equipped with multiple fixed charging piles and a mobile emergency charging warehouse.

In addition to increasing support in high-speed service areas, State Grid Hubei Electric Power also innovatively piloted the creation of intelligent optical storage, charging and discharging integrated super charging stations, applying fully liquid-cooled supercharging technology to improve charging efficiency, and announced in advance 50 busy charging high-speed service area sites in the province during the National Day. Various places also balance charging loads through price guidance and other methods. State Grid Xianning Company has uniformly lowered the charging service fees at 13 sub-busy stations to 0.2 yuan per unit to guide car owners to rationally divert charging. At the Chibi Ancient Battlefield, the newly built charging station at the entrance of the scenic spot has also innovatively expanded emergency energy replenishment points, and mobilized residents and merchants to share private charging piles within 1 kilometer of the scenic spot.
Charging station in Gaoyou service area of Beijing-Shanghai Expressway completed expansion
The largest high-speed service area charging station in Jiangsu, the Beijing-Shanghai Expressway Gaoyou Service Area Charging Station, completed its expansion on the eve of the National Day holiday. After the upgrade, the site has a total of 82 DC charging piles and 142 charging guns, which can ensure the recharge of a large number of new energy vehicles at the same time.
