During the “15th Five-Year Plan” period, our country will invest more than 5 trillion yuan in building new power grids, far exceeding the scale during the “14th Five-Year Plan” period. By 2030, my country will initially build a new power grid to effectively guarantee the electricity demand for economic and social development and efficiently support the consumption of more than 2.8 billion kilowatts of new energy. So, how to move forward step by step with the next key tasks? Let’s take a look at the reporter’s exclusive interview with Tan Hongjiang, deputy director of the Electric Power Department of the National Energy Administration.
Optimize and improve the new structure of the power gridDuring the “15th Five-Year Plan” period, we will strive to build and put into operation more than 15 power transmission channels. By 2030, the scale of “West-to-East Power Transmission” will exceed 420 million kilowatts. Strengthen the level of interconnection and interoperability of power grids in various regions across the country. During the “15th Five-Year Plan” period, an additional 40 million kilowatts of inter-provincial power mutual assistance capacity will be added. Improve the reliable carrying capacity of the distribution network. By 2030, the comprehensive carrying capacity of the distribution network will be doubled, with the ability to access 900 million kilowatts of distributed new energy.

In promoting the development of smart microgrids, build supply-guaranteed microgrids at the end of the power grid and in border and island areas, industrial green microgrids and village-level smart microgrids in different scenarios to improve the self-balancing, self-regulation and self-safety capabilities of microgrids.
In terms of system adjustment capabilities, by 2030, the maximum regulating capacity of virtual power plants will exceed 50 million kilowatts, the scale of pumped hydro storage will reach about 160 million kilowatts, and the scale of new energy storage will reach 300 million kilowatts.

Charging infrastructure network, by 2030, the total number of charging facilities nationwide will exceed 40 million.
In terms of improving new services of the power grid, it is necessary to strengthen the construction of power grids in areas where users related to new productivity such as chip manufacturing, biomedicine, and precision processing are concentrated, and to ensure the quality of power supply for key enterprises.

In terms of improving the security of electricity services for people’s livelihood, further promote the universalization of power supply services, update and transform power distribution facilities in high-rise single-power residential communities, old communities, and urban villages, strengthen the consolidation and improvement of rural power grids, and continue to improve the travel needs of the people.
