Starting yesterday (September 29), the strongest cold air influence in the second half of the year has begun, and cooling has occurred in northern North China and the western part of Northeast China. Today and tomorrow, as the cold air moves eastward and southward, the temperature will drop from north to south in most parts of the central and eastern regions. China Weather Network has launched a cooling calendar for large cities to see where the seasonal cooling starts and where the temperature will reach new lows.

Ye Menglong, a meteorological analyst at China Weather Network, said that currently, a strong cold air is affecting our country. It is expected that today and tomorrow, the temperature will drop by 4°C to 8°C in most areas of the central and eastern regions. In addition, there will be a wave of cold air moving south from October 3 to 4. Although the intensity is not strong, it will continue to drop temperatures in many areas. It is expected that temperatures in many places in the north and south will hit record lows in the coming week.

Autumn coolness intensifies, the lowest temperature in the north will hit record lows in large areas

Today, the cooling in most of the north continues to “increase”. The cooling area mainly covers the eastern part of the northwest region, the central and eastern part of the Northeast region, most of North China, central and northern Shandong, northern and southern Henan and other places. The local cooling range can reach more than 8℃. On the morning of October 1, the minimum temperature line of 0°C will press southward to northern Hebei and western Heilongjiang. By then, the minimum temperature in the north may reach new lows in large areas.

From the perspective of big cities, Hohhot and Yinchuan took the lead in cooling down. On the morning of September 30, the temperature reached a new low. Among them, Hohhot was only 0.1℃, which was obviously chilly. On October 1, the lowest temperatures in Harbin, Shenyang, Taiyuan, and Yinchuan were also 6°C or below, while those in Beijing and Jinan were around 10°C. These cities will all experience the coldest mornings in the second half of the year.

Subsequently, from October 3rd to 4th, the central and eastern regions will also usher in a cold air process. Although the force is not strong, based on the early cooling, it is difficult for the temperature in the north to rebound significantly, and the autumn coolness will continue to worsen. During the entire National Day holiday, the lowest temperatures in Harbin, Changchun, Shenyang, Hohhot, Lanzhou, Yinchuan and other places will remain in single digits or just over 10℃. Be sure to wear extra clothes to keep warm when going out in the morning and evening.

As the heat subsides, many areas in the South will experience seasonal cooling

In the south, the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River have already felt the power of cooling today, but the sultry weather in southern Jiangnan, southwest and south China will continue. However, as the cold air continues to advance southward, temperatures in many places in the south will hit record lows from October 1st to 5th.

From the perspective of big cities, on October 1st, the maximum temperature in Wuhan and Hefei was only 18℃, which will be the first time the local temperature fell below 20℃ for the whole day after the beginning of autumn. After that, the maximum temperature in Changsha and Nanjing will also drop to 18℃ on the 2nd and 3rd, while Guiyang and Kunming will drop to 17℃ on the 4th and 5th respectively.

Driven by cooling, the autumn territory will continue to expand southward, and many places in the south of the Yangtze River are even expected to start the autumn process during the National Day holiday.
