A drone shot down by NATO fighter jets over Lithuania was carrying explosives, Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas said on Tuesday.
The explosive device was defused by specialist forces, Kaunas wrote on Facebook, adding that the drone was still being examined and analysed.
Italian Eurofighter jets shot down the unmanned aircraft over a rural area near the village of Pratkunai shortly after midnight. No injuries or damage were reported.
Authorities had earlier warned residents in several regions of Lithuania, an EU and NATO member, of a possible aerial threat.
There was initially no confirmed information on the drone’s origin or type.
Preliminary findings indicated that it had probably entered Lithuanian airspace from Belarus.
There have been several drone incidents in the Baltic states since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
