Beijing News (Reporter Wu Danping) Recently, villagers from the Yantang Village Group of Enhong Village Committee, Dongshan Town, Qilin District, Qujing City, Yunnan Province reported that the mountains and roads near the village, as well as the houses and farmland of many villagers, have experienced varying degrees of cracking and collapse, and they are worried about potential safety hazards. On September 16, a reporter from the Beijing News learned from the Qujing Municipal Natural Resources and Planning Bureau that relevant experts had gone to the site to verify the situation that day. The specific cause of the cracking needs to be confirmed after investigation.

On September 16, Mr. Li, a villager in Yantang Village, told a reporter from the Beijing News that after returning home from other places in mid-August, his family told him that the cultivated land at home had subsided and that farming could not be done. Later, he discovered that there were many cracks on the mountain near the village, there were obvious rock collapses, and some trees on the mountain tended to bend. Mr. Li said that the mountain crack is about 60 meters away from the road and about 400 to 500 meters away from Yantang Village in a straight line. There is a ditch between the mountain and the village. On September 14, when he went up the mountain to check again, he found that the cracks in the mountain were visually deepening than before. The video provided by Mr. Li showed that he threw a stone into the crack that day, and about 5 seconds later there was a sound deep in the crack.

Mr. Li said that in addition to the collapse of his farmland, cracks also appeared on the bricks on the exterior wall of his small house that was just built three or four years ago. After he reported the relevant situation, many villagers in the same village also reported similar problems. Mr. Li’s preliminary statistics show that among the approximately 40 households in the village, more than a dozen households each have their houses or farmland affected.

On September 16, a reporter from the Beijing News learned from the Land and Space Ecological Restoration Section of the Qujing Municipal Natural Resources and Planning Bureau that relevant experts from Qujing City and Qilin District have initially verified the situation, and have requested the provincial department to send an expert team to verify the relevant situation on site. The specific cause of the cracking needs to be confirmed after investigation. A staff member of the Dongshan Town Government told the Beijing News reporter that relevant situations had been discovered during daily investigations and are now being handled by higher-level departments.
