After 241 consecutive days aboard the International Space Station, Williams and two Roscosmos cosmonauts touched down safely on the steppe of Kazakhstan on July 27, 2026, marking the end of a mission that spanned more than 102 million miles.
The Soyuz MS-27 spacecraft undocked from the station's Rassvet module and completed a controlled descent, deploying its parachute and firing braking rockets moments before landing. Recovery teams were on site within minutes.
During their 241-day stay, the Expedition 73 crew conducted hundreds of scientific experiments spanning materials science, biology, fluid physics, and human physiology. Williams participated in multiple spacewalks to maintain the station's external systems.
One of the most notable experiments involved growing protein crystals in microgravity to help pharmaceutical researchers design more effective drugs. The crew also studied how long-duration spaceflight affects the human immune system, collecting data that will inform future missions to the Moon and Mars.
